Today we leave the more familiar Annapurna trails and follow a quieter route toward Bayeli Kharka. The trail passes through dense forest and gradually climbs toward higher alpine terrain.

At 4,600 metres, Khayar Lake provides a spectacular high-Himalayan setting surrounded by wilderness. After spending some time at the lake, we retrace our route back to Khopra Ridge.

After breakfast, we leave Khopra Ridge and begin a long descent toward Swanta Village.
The scenery changes as we lose altitude, taking us from high alpine landscapes back toward forests, farmland and traditional mountain settlements.
Swanta is a charming village where you can experience local rural life. If operating conditions permit, you can also visit the community's yak cheese factory and learn more about local production.

It can be suitable for reasonably fit first-time trekkers who are prepared for several days of walking and the high altitude of Khayar Lake. However, the Khayar Lake day is demanding, so beginners should prepare with regular walking or hiking before the trek.
The best seasons are generally spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November), when the weather is usually more stable and mountain visibility is better. Spring is particularly beautiful when rhododendrons are blooming.
This itinerary starts and finishes in Pokhara. We drive from Pokhara to Ghandruk at the beginning of the trek and return to Pokhara by road from Ulleri after completing the trekking route.
We recommend trekking with a local experienced guide, especially because the route includes remote sections and a high-altitude hike to Khayar Lake. A guide also makes it easier to manage accommodation, navigation and local logistics.
Accommodation is generally provided in local teahouses and mountain lodges along the route. Facilities become simpler at higher elevations, particularly around Khopra Ridge.
Essential items include comfortable trekking boots, warm layers, a waterproof jacket, sleeping bag, trekking trousers, gloves, hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, water bottle, personal medication and a small backpack. Warm clothing is particularly important for the higher sections of the trek.
